Farewell in Manchuria
English | Español | 繁體中文 | 简体中文 | Tagalog | Tiếng Việt

I am a daughter of a Russian born, China raised father and an Irish mother.
This formal portrait was taken when my father was about to be separated from his family at the age of 19. During the political upheaval in Manchuria in the late 1930s, his parents sent him away in order to save his life. His destination was San Francisco.
His parents said goodbye not knowing if they would ever see him again. Their grief is visible in their eyes as they bid farewell to their son.
